Agriculinary
In a country like the UAE where extreme hot and arid climates is the norm, traditional agriculture is challenged. With less than 1% of the land being arable, 90% of food is being imported, and agriculture contributes only 0.1% to the GDP. (U.AE)
Agriculinary offers a sustainable agricultural solution to address the UAE’s pressing food security issue, by integrating agriculture, education, culinary arts and a research lab. The center aims to not only educate but fight for food security. It will contribute to the UAE’s national goal of increasing local food production by 30% by 2030. As well as the UAE’s objective of the National Food Security Strategy, that is to increase domestic food production by 30% to 40%, aiming for 50% local production by 2051.
The Agriculinary Center aims to revolutionize sustainable agriculture and culinary education in the UAE by addressing the country’s pressing food security issue. The integration of advanced farming techniques, the Agrilab – a seed research lab, and educational programs, it will promote local food production, gardening and farming methods that are sustainable. It aims to reduce the UAE’s reliance on food imports and will contribute towards creating a community engaged in food sustainability.
The Agriculinary Center aims to create an immersive experience where agriculture and culinary arts take center stage. The design will foster a deep connection to nature and each other, emphasizing the importance of sustainable farming and food. Open, interactive spaces will encourage learning, collaboration, and hands-on engagement, while natural materials and greenery will reinforce an organic, welcoming atmosphere. Sustainability will be at the core, integrating smart agriculture techniques and eco-friendly design. Every element—from the kitchen to the research lab—will highlight the journey from seed to plate, inspiring visitors to appreciate and engage with the future of food.
